US vs EU cloud pricing
The same instance often costs more in Europe than in the US. Here is the on-demand general-purpose VM premium for the EU region on each hyperscaler, at matching specs. US regions are typically the cheapest each provider offers.
EU premium by provider
| Provider | US region | EU region | Avg EU premium | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| AWS | us-east-1 | eu-west-1 | +11% | details |
| Azure | eastus | westeurope | +20% | details |
| GCP | us-central1 | europe-west1 | +10% | details |

DigitalOcean and Hetzner
DigitalOcean prices Droplets flat across its regions — a General Purpose Droplet costs the same in New York, Amsterdam, or Singapore — so there is no US-vs-EU premium to model.
Hetzner is EU-native (data centers in Germany and Finland, plus US locations) and bills in euros; its dedicated-vCPU CCX line is often the cheapest way to run compute in Europe. Compare it directly on the instance directory.
