Frequently asked questions
How do I know if my cloud instance is overpriced?
Compare what you pay against the provider's on-demand list price for that exact instance type. If you are paying well above list without a reason (premium support, a resold/managed markup, or a pricier region), it is worth investigating. This tool does that comparison and also shows the cheapest equivalent on another provider.
Why might I be paying below the list price?
Reserved instances, Savings Plans, and committed-use discounts legitimately price below on-demand list — up to about 72% lower for long, upfront commitments. Paying below list usually means those discounts are working.
Is a cheaper provider always better?
Not necessarily. A lower list price on another provider is only worth acting on if migration cost, ecosystem lock-in, and your team's expertise do not outweigh it. For a single instance the gap rarely justifies moving; across a whole fleet it can.
